CATRO Bulgaria held an online information and discussion meeting on neurodivergence in the workplace on 12 July 2023. The event was inspired by the growing significance of recognizing and promoting neurodiversity in the workplace. Studies worldwide show that among adults:
- 1 in 7 is neurodivergent, but most don’t know it;
- dyslexia is the most common type of neurodivergent condition – about 10% of adults are diagnosed with dyslexia;
- 4 – 5% of the population has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD);
- 1 – 2% of people have autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
A considerable number of neurodivergent people are underemployed or unemployed despite their strengths and abilities.
Many companies in Bulgaria do not have specifically designed neurodiversity programs, and at the same time, many are implementing inclusion processes and approaches that actually meet the needs of people on the neurodiversity spectrum. The event gathered together representatives of the business sector to share their experiences and practices that are beneficial for people with neurodivergence!
The participants explored to what extent their companies meet the needs of neurodiverse employees and discussed what and how to improve their cultures of inclusion.
CATRO Bulgaria has been an active member of the Bulgarian Diversity Charter since April 2021.
