Diversity Under Pressure: Global Resistance and the Bulgarian Reality

What are the main challenges facing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies? Gergana Manolova, a member of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria, explores this topic in a recent analysis published in the Manager magazine. Her article states that: “For Bulgarian business, the way forward lies in understanding that [diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs] are not a burden, but a catalyst. In a world driven by automation and artificial intelligence, human authenticity and the diversity of ideas remain the only capital that cannot be replaced.”

Diversity in the workplace gives organizations a key advantage in adaptation and a high capacity for innovation: “The latest data from 2025 indicates that companies with high levels of diversity are significantly more likely to achieve financial results above the sector average. In Bulgaria, where the labour market is under pressure from the demographic crisis, diversity policies are becoming a pragmatic response to the labour shortage. Attracting talent from different age groups, people with neurodivergent profiles, or members of minority groups is no longer a matter of management’s personal choice, but of the business’s long-term operational survival.”
