June Sarpong smashes the glass ceiling as BBC appoints her first Director of Creative Diversity

The 42-year-old television broadcaster, writer and campaigner just became the BBC’s first ever Director of Creative Diversity and she will start in the role from 1 November.
June is the author of the books Diversify: Six Degrees of Integration (2017) and The Power of Women (2018). In an opinion piece of 2017, she wrote: “As it stands, only 4% of doctors, 6% of barristers, 11% of journalists and 12% of solicitors come from working-class backgrounds; women earn 14% less than men; and only one in 16 top management positions are held by ethnic minority. […] Which means children who go on to become lawyers and judges are educated in an exclusive environment, devoid of those from other social backgrounds. Long term, this isn’t right for the society.”.
