The proven benefits of diversity within a workforce are clear: diverse organizations are more innovative, make better decisions and outperform their competition. The past few years have seen companies around the world enacting or strengthening policies designed to improve their diversity.
However, many businesses also face logistical hurdles to enacting their well-intended policies, including a lack of diversity in a geographic area or a talent pool. I believe one important answer to many of these challenges is something that has upended our workplace expectations in the past several years: remote work.
I have seen firsthand how remote work allows my company to find more diverse candidates. Before the Covid pandemic, when most of our workforce was in office spaces, my company was only able to hire in three states. Now, thanks to our embrace of remote work, we have employees in 16 states.
