Bulgarian Diversity Charter Highlights Opportunities for Municipalities at NAMRB Meeting

On 15 May 2026, the Bulgarian Diversity Charter took part in the spring meeting of the Standing Committee on Public Communications of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB), where discussions focused on the role of municipalities in building more inclusive and sustainable local communities.

The topic was presented by Kamelia Slaveykova, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Shell Bulgaria and Board member of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum, and Dr. Tatyana Novossiolova, senior analyst with the Center for the Study of Democracy who emphasized the importance of diversity, equality, and inclusion as key pillars for the development of modern local administrations.

During the session, the activities of the Bulgarian Diversity Charter and the long-standing partnership between the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum and the Center for the Study of Democracy were presented, highlighting their joint efforts to promote social responsibility and inclusive practices. Special attention was given to the European initiative European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award, in which Bulgarian municipalities are not yet represented. Participants discussed opportunities to encourage more Bulgarian cities and municipalities to join the competition and increase the international visibility of their successful local policies and initiatives.

Kamelia Slaveykova stressed the need for a broader understanding of the concepts of diversity, equality, and inclusion, noting that they encompass a wide range of human differences and opportunities for development.

Dr. Tatyana Novossiolova presented the “Capital of Diversity” competition and the “Month of Diversity” initiative, both aimed at fostering a more inclusive labour market.

Implementing diversity policies strengthens municipalities’ reputations, builds greater public trust, and supports stronger partnerships with businesses and investors.

The meeting also explored the possibility of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum and the Center for the Study of Democracy organizing a dedicated online information session for municipalities interested in applying for the next edition of the competition.
